Flexible accumulation, soft skills and innovation

This article is about the interface between soft skills and the idea of innovation, aiming to reveal implications in human formation. We carried out qualitative research, analizing documents from multilateral organizations, especially UNESCO and OECD. We identified that the agenda of innovation linked to technology and notions of behavior was incorporated as a skill within the scope of “Novo Ensino Médio”. It aims to adapt young people to a context of precarious living and working conditions. Imbued with the rhetoric of innovation and risk-taking, workers are held responsible for their success or failure, diminishing the prospect of claiming and accessing universal social rights.

From enticement to confrontation

The objective of this study is to understand the forms of contemporary slavery in Minas Gerais in relation to cases reported between 2020 and 2023. The theoretical foundation is the articulation of theoretical approaches to contemporary slavery as a management model and of formulation of public policies for its eradication. In the methodological procedures, a thematic analysis of news published in national press between 2020 and 2023 was carried out. The research results highlighted three main themes: 1) enticement; 2) work conditions; 3) institutional responses. The analyses points out the existence of a cycle of contemporary slavery and by presenting the panorama of this management practice in Minas Gerais and practical implications for the improvement of public policies in search of the eradication of this management practice.

Solidarity economy and work in the Brazilian Amazon

This article investigates the solidarity economy and the organization of work in the Amazon region, focusing on the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Community, rural area of Coari, Amazonas. This is a qualitative analysis, based on data collected through interviews. The complexity of solidarity economic practices is explored considering the challenges faced by workers associated with the Associação Comunitária dos Produtores Rurais da Comunidade Nossa Senhora Aparecida (APRODUCIDA). The importance of organizing workers in solidarity enterprises for social inclusion stands out, as evidenced in the APRODUCIDA. It is concluded that the solidarity economy can be a vital tool, but it faces significant obstacles in the Region such as the lack of institutional support and public policies. In addition to the need for state support, understanding the uniqueness of work in the Amazon is crucial, including understanding local characteristics and valuing sustainable local knowledge.

This article therefore aims to analyze the ideological foundations that underpin the development of financial education strategies, investigating the central role played by the OECD in this process. The ENEF is analysed as an educational policy developed in Brazil adapts to international imperatives. Thus, based on historical materialism, this work, through an analysis of official documents, aims to show how ENEF’s formative premise is a neoliberal subjectivity guided by the company and marked by the cadence of the financial market, in order to forge flexible and resilient individuals and, consequently, functional to the pattern of capitalist accumulation

The Work for imporverished women

Gender identities are naturalized through practices and discourses aimed at maintaining inequalities. The insertion of women in the formal labor market occurred differently according to their social classes, therefore, their conditioning factors and effects are different. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of meanings about work produced by women in the impoverished/lower classes. Five cisgender women with an individual income of up to two minimum wages were interviewed and the data were analyzed using French Discourse Analysis. The main results highlighted: work as survival or as loving, helpful and versatile. It is understood that the domination of neoliberal capitalist ideology reproduces, through gender normative discursive practices, the maintenance of social inequalities, economic exploitation and political domination.

The Labour Process Theory in contemporary times

The Labor Process Theory (LPT) focuses on critically examining the dynamics of control, consent, and resistance in work regimes under capitalism. Over the years, several of its conceptual developments have incorporated varied theoretical traditions whose diversity motivated the research that gave rise to this paper. The objective of this scientific article is to analyze international production on LPT over the last thirteen years, in order to identify its main themes and research agendas. To this end, a literature review was carried out in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Various paths of research on LPT were observed, including topics such as: a) expansion of the disqualification and alienation of workers from different sectors; b) intersectionalities of gender and race; c) control and production of consent; and d) emotional labor. Among the new research themes, the growing debate about work through applications and discussions of new forms of worker exploitation and work control dynamics stood out.

Universities' actions against Coronavirus/COVID-19

This article aimed to map the actions taken by the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of Bahia in 2020, in order to face the pandemic, that have contributed to expand the institutional role of producing science and legitimating knowledge. Based on a qualitative, exploratory, and documentary research, a survey was conducted on the official websites of the four State HEIs of Bahia and the five Federal ones. For data analysis, we used the content analysis technique through which three categories of analysis emerged: health, prophylaxis, and information. We noticed that Bahia's HEIs have been taking many actions, in the aforementioned areas, that cooperate in the fight against the new coronavirus/COVID-19, in the progress of science, and in the fight against ignorance. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of HEIs and their social role.

The special mobile inspection groups as an effective public policy to combat contemporary Brazilian slave labor

The study investigates the role of Special Mobile Inspection Groups in mitigating contemporary slave labor. Although Brazilian slavery was abolished in the costly May of 1888, its practice spread over the years, in line with modern times. Between 1995 and 2023, more than 60 thousand workers were found in conditions similar to slavery in the national territory. The rescues of these people were made possible through Special Mobile Inspection Groups, forming one of the first public policies to combat and eradicate contemporary slave labor. Thus, the study seeks to answer how Special Mobile Inspection Groups act and contribute to the eradication of contemporary Brazilian slave labor? To answer the research problem, bibliographical study, an inductive approach method, as well as the historical and monographic procedure method were used. The research's central objective is to analyze how these Groups operate, evaluating their effectiveness and identifying their main challenges in carrying out their activities, justified by the need for a careful look at slave labor, as well as public policies to combat and eradicate of this inhumane practice.

Digital Technologies, Intentions and Education

This article aims to develop a discussion about Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDICs), their social and mainly educational consequences, understanding them as instruments that carry intentions, far from a notion of neutrality. The research was developed using the bibliographic method, and the discussions are organized into sections, initially addressing the concept of technology adopted in this work, followed by sections of discussions on digital technologies in society and digital technologies in the school environment. Through the literature review carried out, it was possible to conclude that it is extremely necessary to develop a more critical look at the implementation of digital technologies and TDICs in society and, mainly, in the school environment.

The purpose of this article is to map the emerging literature on platform cooperativism, particularly to understand the themes that are being addressed by the research, the methodologies used, the results and the open questions that require further investigation or new research. To this end, the systematic review method was used, whose research covers works published in the CAPES Periodicals Platform over a period of fifteen years (2008-2023). The results showed 88 works, considering the initial descriptors in Portuguese and English. After applying the exclusion/inclusion parameters, we arrived at 43 works that serve as the basis for this research. Most of the works point to platform cooperativism as a proposal that opposes platform capitalism and highlights the limits and challenges of such a proposal and the need for further studies.
